First Shift Truck Driver

Charter Manufacturing Niles Iron and Metal Company facility is currently looking to fill our 1st-Shift Truck Driver position. Truck Drivers pick up scrap from our clients and customers and delivers the scrap to our scrap yard in a safe and efficient manner. 

What do you need to know about the job?

• Hourly Pay – Starts at $23/hour
• Shift -This is a First Shift job, (6:30am until 4:30pm, or until the job is completed, 40+ hours per week)

POSTION PURPOSE/MISSION:

Play a critical role in supporting the seamless flow of our scrap yard operations by ensuring the safe, timely, and efficient transportation of scrap materials to and from our customers. Through exceptional service and reliability, Truck Drivers help to maintain operational continuity and strengthen customer relationships.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

· Safely climb in/out of a tractor cab/trailer

· Sit for extended periods in a truck tractor

· Walk and stand for extended periods on various surfaces that may be uneven or slippery (including working outdoors in inclement weather)

· Reach (including above your head), bend, climb, push, pull, twist, squat and kneel

· Operate a tractor-trailer combination in all types of weather, while safely transporting materials

· Occasional lifting up to 25 lbs.

· Ability to meet the physical requirements, with or without reasonable accommodation, as provided in detail in the Job Analysis Database.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

· High School Diploma or GED equivalent

· Class A CDL license required

· Two year experience with flat-bed & tractor trailer switching

· Clean Driving Record

· Ability to follow all federal and/or state laws, regulations, and/or agency rules, standards and guidelines

· Good written and verbal communication

· Dump trailer & roll off experience a plus

· Proven ability to troubleshoot and problem-solve

· Familiarity with Niles, Warren & Youngstown metro area…in addition to Northeast Ohio

Must know how to tie down material safely and drop off loads safely

Ability to pass a Zero Tolerance DOT Drug Screen

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

· 2 plus years of experience in scrap truck hauling

· Strong customer service skills.

Familiarity with ELD (Electronic Logging Device) systems

Ability to be flexible and learn other parts of the yard

MAJOR ACCOUNTABILITIES:

· Safely deliver and pick up scrap metal from various off-site facilities

· Review and secure Bill of Lading and other miscellaneous paperwork.

· Inspect trucks and trailers before and after trips and report any issues.

· Maintain accurate records of deliveries, mileage, fuel use, and hours of service.

· Communicate effectively with Logistics & Scale Manager and customers.

· Follow designated routes and meet delivery schedules.

· Ensure the cleanliness and maintenance of the vehicle.

· Ensure a safe work environment and contribute to a highly engaging culture that fosters safety, continuous improvement, teamwork, and trust.

ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS:

· Reports to: Logistics & Scale Manager

· Primary internal customers: Logistics & Scale Manager, Yard Operations employees

· Primary external customers: Ferrous & non-ferrous scrap customers

POSITION CHALLENGES:

· Balancing timely deliveries with safety and compliance.

· Navigating variable weather and road conditions.

· Managing long hours and/or irregular schedules.

· Maintaining focus and alertness over long distances.

· Handling unexpected pick up issues or delays.
