Assess and provide medical care as appropriate for patient care populations based on competence, professional expertise, and knowledge. The PA is expected to practice consistent with Professional Standards of Practice. Collaborate judgment with off-site physician is expected to be exercised within the context of interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary approaches to patient care. Under general supervision, the PA performs operational level duties as described in the UCSD Performance Policy. The major emphasis of this position is direct patient care delivery. Assignments at this level primarily encompass management of patients who present chronic and/or episodic health problems. Assignments at this level may include responsibility for occasional community teaching programs, participation in program planning and development of patient education information. May perform other related duties as assigned.
Under the direction of the Clinical Medical Director for Select Specialty Hospital, the Physician Assistant (PA) will provide patient care for University of California San Diego Health patients who were discharged to Select Specialty. The PA will be responsible for daily examinations; ordering the diagnostic tests; and following up on these and other laboratory tests; formulation plan of care. Plans and implements treatment, teaching and or support to patients and families. Provides consultation to other health and allied health professionals to collaboratively assess patient care needs and treatment plans periods. Will act as a liaison between the University of California San Diego Health physician teams to ensure continuity of care.

Must be a graduate from a physician assistant program approved by the Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant (ARC-PA).
California Physician Assistant (PA) license.
Current PA Certification from NCCPA.
Current BLS and ACLS certifications with commitment to maintain during employment.
Minimum of three (3) years experience as a Physician Assistant working within the inpatient environment with medical and/or surgical patients.
Ability to perform initial history, and physical examination, identify major medical problems, and formulate appropriate plans of action.
Ability to manage own patient load.
Must be able to work within a team environment.
Must possess excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
Ability to communicate effectively with patients and other health care personnel.
Ability to maintain good working relationships and communications with physicians in-charge, laboratory personnel, and members of the health care team.
Knowledge of all types of treatment and modalities necessary for the patients care and well-being and the skill in recording nursing/medical assessment findings accurately and completely.
Must be able to work various hours and location based on business needs.
Must be able to obtain Select Specialty Hospital privileges.

Annual Full Pay Range: $198,485 - $198,485 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)
Hourly Equivalent: $95.06 - $95.06
Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The Annual Full Pay Range may be broader than what the University anticipates to pay for this position, based on internal equity, budget, and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).
