The School of Criminology and Criminal Justice (SCCJ) in the Watts College of Public Service and Community Solutions at Arizona State University (ASU) invites applications for Faculty Associate positions for the 2025 - 2026 academic year. Faculty Associates are fixed-term, adjunct faculty hired on one-semester, renewable contracts to teach one or two (3-credit) courses per semester, either in-person or online, not exceeding 0.40 FTE. These positions are fixed-term and do not include benefits, sabbaticals, or tenure. Salary depends on qualifications and teaching load. Official transcripts are required prior to employment. Individuals may not hold multiple non-benefits eligible appointments at ASU. We seek qualified individuals who can teach in-person courses on ASU campuses in Downtown Phoenix, Tempe, or Glendale, and those able to teach online. Faculty are required to use a lead syllabus or course shell template that includes required books and assignments across multiple sections. About The School SCCJ is part of ASU’s Watts College, serving over 6,747 students. It is nationally recognized, ranked #2 in the US for criminology and criminal justice by US News and World Report . The school offers undergraduate, master’s, and doctoral degrees, with concentrations in areas like homeland security, criminal investigations, juvenile justice, law, and policing. Courses are offered in person and online across multiple campuses and online platforms. The SCCJ offices are located on ASU’s Downtown Phoenix campus, providing opportunities for instruction, internships, and community-based learning. The successful candidate will engage in teaching, mentoring, and other duties as assigned by the Director. Job Duties Faculty associates will teach undergraduate and master’s courses related to social science perspectives on topics such as domestic terrorism, international terrorism, cyberterrorism, homeland security, weapons of mass destruction, and intelligence analysis. Required Qualifications For undergraduate courses: a doctoral degree in security studies, terrorism studies, intelligence analysis, homeland security, law, criminology, criminal justice, or a related field, from a regionally accredited university. Alternatively, a master’s degree in these fields with at least three years of related teaching or practitioner experience. For graduate courses: a doctoral degree in these fields, or a master’s degree with at least six years of related experience demonstrating increasing responsibility. Demonstrated commitment to inclusion. Desired Qualifications Doctoral degree from a regionally accredited university. Seven or more years of experience in homeland security or counter-terrorism, with leadership roles. Evidence of teaching effectiveness, such as evaluations or sample syllabi. Experience with technology and course management systems. Excellent English communication skills.
