Dispatcher/Disaster Duty Officer

• Remote, but must reside in Centre, Dauphin, York, Cumberland, Lancaster, Lebanon, Adams, Franklin, Juniata, Mifflin or Perry counties

Support local disaster responses from your home!

• Dispatch and support Red Cross disaster responders.
• Liaison with local authorities by phone and computer.

Responsibilities:

• Process requests from local authorities, determining if Red Cross action is warranted based on event triggers (i.e., size, scope, and type of event). All training provided, along with back-up support as needed.
• Dispatch disaster response teams & resources and provide remote support.
• Complete and share documentation.
• Attend regularly scheduled meetings and stay current on all training.
• Additional related duties as discussed with supervisor.

Commitment:

• Virtual regional position using home phone and Internet covering the entire region.
• Sign up for two 6-hour shifts per week. This commitment may decrease depending on the availability and on supervisor approval. If nothing happens during your window of availability, go about your normal day. But if there is a call, the expectation is you can put aside what you are doing to respond.

Qualifications:

• Access to smart phone computer, and Internet with ability to send/receive text messages.
• Willingness to use/learn new technology required for event documentation and support.
• Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
• Comfortable working independently.
• Ability to read, write, and follow verbal and written instructions in English.

Training:

• 7 Hours virtual training videos
• Additional on the job training and mentorship by regional leadership
