Job Description

Assists hemodialysis patients before, during and after procedures. Assists nursing maintain dialysis machines to ensure proper functioning. This is a full time position, working 40hrs/wk, rotating shifts and 100% on campus (BIDMC- Boston, MA). Primary Responsibilities: Assists with patient care including: transfers of patients into bed, obtaining weight, applying monitoring equipment (essential). Assists in monitoring through treatment (essential). Assists with set up and monitoring of all hemodialysis equipment (essential). Collects monthly water cultures of all HD equipment; Review results and follow protocol for abnormal results (essential). Identifies and participates in quality improvement process (essential). Closely collaborates with Clinical Engineering and outside vendors to maintain equipment (essential). Daily water testing, completion of equipment quality control checks, machine logs, machine disinfection per policy (essential). Works with materials management team to maintain Par levels of supplies, monitors integrity of products including expiration dates, participates in the evaluation of new products and supplies as needed (essential). Required Qualifications: High School diploma or GED required. Vocational or Technical training preferred. License Cert Clin Hemodialysis Tech required. 1-3 years related work experience required. Basic familiarity with computers. Ability to navigate at a basic level within web-based applications. Preferred Qualifications: Previous experience in Acute Care Hemodialysis Unit preferred. Competencies: Decision Making, Problem Solving, Independence of Action, Written and Oral Communications, Knowledge, Team Work, Customer Service. Age based Competencies: Neonatal to Elderly patient care. Social/Environmental Requirements: Close attention to task, potential exposure to infectious diseases and airborne/bloodborne pathogens. Health Care Status: HCW1 regular day-to-day contact. Sensory Requirements: Close work, color vision, visual clarity, conversation, monitoring equipment, telephone, background noise. Physical Requirements: Medium work exerting up to 50 pounds occasionally, physical nature requiring standing and moving majority of shift, endurance for 3-4 hours without break, frequent walking, standing, bending, twisting, crouching, power grasping, fine manipulation, pushing/pulling, lifting and carrying various weights, repositioning patients with/without assistance, occasional keyboard use. Employment condition includes mandatory vaccination against influenza and COVID-19 as a condition of employment.
