Job Description

We’re seeking a mission-driven Computational Biologist to help reshape how we discover and develop therapies for IBD. In this role, you’ll work at the intersection of immunology, machine learning, and multimodal data integration, applying cutting-edge tools to uncover new therapeutic targets and biomarkers.

Location: Onsite in South San Francisco, CA (No remote option)

Duration: 6 month contract with strong potential for extension

Pay rate: $38- $50/ hr. DOE

Team: Bioinformatics – Computational Biology & Translation

Project Objective:

Design, implement, and sustain a computational framework for integrating multimodal datasets—spanning molecular, cellular, clinical, and imaging data—to drive target and biomarker discovery in IBD.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Integrate and analyze multimodal data (e.g. scRNA-seq, spatial transcriptomics, proteomics, histology, endoscopy videos)
  • Build generalized pipelines for target review and biomarker identification
  • Incorporate AI/ML and foundation models into data analysis
  • Translate data findings into target and biomarker recommendations
  • Present findings to multidisciplinary teams and help guide R&D decisions

Requirements:

  • PhD in Computational Biology, Bioinformatics, or a related discipline with 3–5 years of relevant experience in academia (postdoctoral) or industry settings
  • Strong background in immunology, with a preference for expertise in IBD pathogenesis and current therapeutic strategies
  • Proven experience in analyzing complex biological datasets, including multimodal omics and clinical data
  • Proficiency in applying AI/ML approaches, including the use and fine-tuning of foundation models for biological and clinical data interpretation
  • Solid programming skills in Python and/or R, with familiarity in developing and maintaining computational pipelines
  • Hands-on experience with bioinformatics tools such as Seurat, Scanpy, Cell Ranger, Squidpy, or similar platforms
  • Understanding of spatial omics and single-cell analysis methods
  • Knowledge of bioinformatics data standards and best practices for data integration
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively in cross-functional teams and convey complex computational insights to diverse stakeholders
