COMPANY OVERVIEW:

Our client is a well-established, successful specialty vegetable operation with decades of experience in commercial farming. The business grows a focused mix of fresh and organic crops, including iceberg lettuce, romaine, organic kale, organic beets, and organic carrots. With approximately $14M in annual revenue, the operation supplies several well-known, long-term customers and is recognized for consistent quality and reliability.

POSITION OVERVIEW:

This Assistant GM role is a newly created position designed as a clear pathway to becoming the next General Manager. This individual will spend approximately one year training closely with the current GM, gaining hands-on exposure to all aspects of the operation before assuming full leadership responsibility. The role is focused on maintaining and building upon an already successful business, introducing thoughtful evolution without disrupting what’s working well. This opportunity is ideal for a proven vegetable operations professional with strong people and financial management skills who is ready to grow into a larger leadership role within a stable, well-regarded operation.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Train closely with the current General Manager for approximately one year, with the goal of transitioning into the GM role over time.
• Support day-to-day farm operations across production, labor, logistics, and financial oversight, ensuring continuity during a leadership transition.
• Help oversee vegetable production to maintain quality, yield, food safety, and customer specifications.
• Assist with management of large seasonal labor programs, including H2A planning and compliance.
• Work alongside long-tenured managers and team members, supporting leadership development and cultural continuity.
• Contribute to budgeting, cost control, and operational planning in response to market conditions.
• Serve as a hands-on, visible leader who supports thoughtful improvement without disrupting what works.

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Minimum of 8 years of experience in vegetable production, farm operations, or related agricultural roles.
• Hands-on vegetable crop experience required, preferably with crops similar to those grown by the operation.
• Spanish language skills strongly preferred, with the ability to communicate effectively with a diverse workforce.
• Solid agronomic foundation with familiarity in irrigation systems, including center pivot irrigation.
• Willingness to relocate and commit to a long-term leadership opportunity.
• Demonstrated humility, adaptability, and eagerness to learn, with the ambition to grow into a General Manager role.
• Comfortable stepping into an evolving organization and learning multiple functional roles during the first year.
